Happy Fall Break

It's here! Fall Break that is...well at least for some of us, that don't work full time. ;) If there is no break in site for you and life is feeling a bit like "Groundhog Day", do something for yourself this week.  Paint your nails a new fall color, open a new container of hot cocoa, sit down and actually enjoy it.  Put on a fun show to watch while you fold laundry.  I heard a quote today that said this

"Don't let gifts, become a burden"

Explanation: If you're studying and thinking, "I'm so tired of school and having to study", instead think "This is a lot of work, but I'm so grateful I get to have an education, and learn more about this subject!" This principle, can apply to many aspects of our lives.. yard work, house work, parenting.  So often the very things that make me feel exhausted, when seen with a better perspective, I then see them for the blessings that they are.  Is there a burden in your life, that if you were to tweak your perspective would make it better?  My mom has lost her hair to cancer, and  now has "hair envy", and yet how many times have I thought my hair was thicker longer etc.  Hopefully at least some of our burdens could become blessings.

Thank you!

This past weekend was out Super Saturday, and dare I say it was... Fantastic! (you thought I was going to say super, didn't you) Thank you, thank you to the many, many people to make it such a fun day! We especially want to give a shout out to Tori Sumpter, and Amanda Hart, and all those that were in charge of one of our crafts.  Natalie was able to finish all of her projects, so it must have been a good day.  ;) (she shared that with us in Relief Society)

Announcements

Kristina Murphy and family have moved out of our ward this week.  We are so grateful to Kristina, especially her work, love and influence on our primary children while she was serving there.  Thankfully they aren't going far.  Good luck Murphy family.

Lesson #19 Our Commitment to God

Starley lead a great discussion this week, and I wish you all could be there.

She asked "What sacrifices have you made in your life? (imagine here the many sacrifices large and small you have made)  Was it worth it?" Yes, it is always worth it. President Hunter talked about when being called to serve it was difficult for him to give up his law profession, something he was good at and enjoyed, but he was "pleased to respond to the call".  We talked about how commitment doesn't mean we have to be perfect, but means we keep trying, and when we fail, we try again. We discussed the world's way vs God's way.  Several people gave examples of feeling prompted to do something like have another baby, change jobs, or make a move that didn't make any sense, (at least to the world) but if we give up what the world thinks and move forward with those promptings, it most often works out.  An important point was that even if we feel prompted to act on something we may or may NOT always know why we were asked to do that, but we go forward in faith regardless.  If we do this, we will not only be happier, but it can strengthen our "obedience muscle", making it easier the next time.  Kari beautifully pointed out that, "God asks us out of love and for our good to do things to help us become like him.  We may see it as a test, but God is on our side."  Syd Gooch, talked about the importance of have a firm foundation and yet flexability- relating a story of a time they went to see the capitol building being renovated to become more earth quake ready.  There was already concrete and steel but there also needed to be flexability in the foundation so when pressure was applied it could move and not break.  A beautiful analogy to represent that while it's extremely important to have a firm foundation, we need to have some flexibility so that when principles of the gospel, or trials, make us wonder, or question, that we are able move and sway a bit as we resolve those concerns, and yet our foundation remains intact.  A quote from the lesson was this "There is good reason to make our decision now to serve the Lord.  On this Sunday morning(general conference), when the complications and temptations of life are somewhat removed, and when we have the time and more inclination to take an eternal perspective, we can more clearly evaluate what will bring us the greatest happiness in life.

We should decidenow light of the morning, how we will act when the darkness of night and when the storms of temptation arrive." I know my life has been blessed by "sacrifice", and making those hard decisions before hand, so we asked to serve, or be obedient, or whatever it may be, I'm more able to make the right choice.  I hope you each feel blessed in your sacrifice.  Thank you Starley, so great.

Sisters, I hope this note this week finds you well, and uplifted.  Reach out to those around you.  I know I have worried at times when I've wanted to reach out,  that I didn't know exactly what someone needed, or what their favorite drink or treat was, and it inhibited me from doing anything. I've since learned that perfect is not necessary.  Showing love or concern, doesn't have to be beautifully presented or be the perfect thing.  We all just like to know we're thought of.  For me, a text, call, or a squeeze of my arm as I walk by have all been enough to keep me going when things have been hard.  If it's you feeling lonely, know you're loved and thought of.  Reach out to some either in service, or to say "come over, I'm having a hard day".  Much love to each of you!
