A Month of Thanksgiving

Hi ladies! I know you're all dying to know what my favorite holidays is right? If you had to guess, would it be Christmas? Nope, it's Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving is by far my favorite because first,  it's in my favorite season, and to me Thanksgiving feels so much like Christmas with thoughts of giving, family gatherings, good food, and best of all...no presents.  To me Thanksgiving is like Christmas without all the chaos and stress. Just me? Well,  maybe that means I should change something about how I handle Christmas-yikes!  I'm sure many of you have traditions around the month of November gearing up to that great day of thanks, and are just a few of what we do:  Each day don't just think of something you are grateful for, but write it down.  For me writing something down makes it that much more important and meaningful.  Make a gratitude tree.  This could be a big paper tree on a wall in your home where you put leaves with "gratefuls" written on each leaf, filling the tree  throughout the month, or putting a branch from the yard in a mason jar with leaves hanging on it.  I know someone on Thanksgiving day when all the family is gathered that uses a long roll of paper and writes down how many things from silly to serious they can write down they are thankful for, trying to make it longer each year.  I know we should show gratitude all year long, but November is a great time to kick it in high gear, and remember despite our daily challenges, that we have much in which to give thanks.

Lesson Review

This week Brother Bullock taught our combined lesson from the conference talk by Elder Cornish, "Are We Good Enough"? Following are some thoughts to ponder, and a challenge.
- Ask Heavenly Father what he thinks of you, and then patiently, and calmly wait to receive an answer.
-What doctrines in this talk are we taught?
-We need to be careful not to judge ourselves too harshly as if it's too late and things are final, it's the adversary that will keep us from taking advantage of the atonement
- Partaking of the sacrament is the time when we can "re-bind" ourselves with God, and renew all the covenants we have made.
A challenge was given to read the talks "O how Great the Plan of our God, by Elder Uchtdorf, with Elder Hollands talk from April Conference and try to find the connection.

*We have been asked to include this information in regard to the refugees:
Sisters-
We, as the Stake Relief Society Presidency, extend our gratitude for your response to our plea for help and the outpouring of love and charity that has been given in regards to the refugees within our Stake. The response has been overwhelming and many families and individuals have already been blessed.
Most of the immediate needs for furniture, bedding, and diapers/wipes have been met and their ward leadership is now trying to assess and meet the specific needs of other families that may still require assistance.
Some things that have come to our attention:

*There is still a pressing need for a few families to find affordable housing within the area. If you have any information on housing available, please contact a member of the Stake RS Presidency.
*With the changing of the season there is a need for gently used, clean winter clothing including coats, hats, gloves, boots, etc. as well as warm blankets.

To help with the collection of these items ONLY, we will be holding a coat and blanket drive on Saturday, November 5th, 2016 from 9:00am to 11:00am . The drive will be held at the Lehi Pheasant Pointe Stake Center in the Relief Society room.

Many of you still have questions regarding donations you have offered and are waiting for a response. Because we are working through ward priesthood and relief society leadership, this process can take longer. We have created a list of all donations that have been offered and these leaders have access to this list. As they discover needs within their ward, they can review the list and find those items and the contact information of the people willing to donate. The ward leadership will contact you if your donation is needed. If you wish to get rid of the items you have volunteered to donate, either because you cannot hold on to them or you have found someone else in need, please feel free to do so. The DI as well as our own community group, Refugee Collections in Utah County, is an excellent way for you to give a charitable contribution.

Thank you,
Sister Eyre, Sister Ogden, Sister Morrow and Sister Bunnell
Have a good week, and don't forget to reach out to those you visit teach.
