Lesson 22  Review "Teaching the Gospel"-

"The purpose of teaching...is that we might be an instrument in the hands of the Lord in changing the heart of an individual."
-We can help others develop confidence in the scriptures.  We are strongly encouraged to use the scriptures when we teach.  Helping those we teach become familiar with the standard works.  No one should ever feel ashamed or fearful that they can't find what they are looking for. "We have a great responsibility as [teachers]... to make sure our own members, our own young people, do not fall into that unfortunate category of being good, fine, worthy young men and women who are kept from the truths of the scriptures because they do not know where to find those truths".
We are taught to teach with the spirit, " if ye receive not the Spirit ye shall not teach” (D&C 42:14). We are taught to be careful not to mistake emotion for the spirit. "...sacred moments may or may not be accompanied by tears. Very often they are, but sometimes they are accompanied by total silence. Other times they are accompanied by joy. Always they are accompanied by a great manifestation of the truth, of revelation to the heart.
"“And now behold, I ask of you, my brethren [and sisters] of the church, have ye spiritually been born of God? Have ye received his image in your countenances? Have ye experienced this mighty change in your hearts?” (Alma 5:14.) This is the purpose of teaching. This is the reason we labor so hard, seek the Spirit, and prepare our minds with good things as the Lord has commanded, that we might be an instrument in the hands of the Lord in changing the heart of an individual." Teach with the spirit, by example, and try to reach each individual in the way you feel directed as a teacher.   Thank you Starley for lesson and spirit.

Fun stuff-
The following are some food blogs that have amazing recipes,
or tutorials as you head into the holidays, or anytime.  Is that frozen turkey thawing? It better be, or it may be too late.  If you run into a problem you can always call Butterball's, "turkey talk line". it's a real thing.

-Mels kitchen cafe- Lots of Thanksgiving recipes, as well as other tried and true recipes.  I made Mel's crock pot roast tonight with veggies and it was delicious! Possibly the best I've tried.

Our Best Bites- If you haven't heard about these 2 Mormon mom food bloggers, then check them out.

Listen while traveling-

Since some of you may be in for some travel, or long hours in the kitchen, I thought I would include some podcasts that I have really enjoyed and I find uplifting.  If there are any podcasts you particularly enjoy I would love to hear about it!

In no particular order:

Life beats-Pursuing the Art of Living Extraordinarily: Briana the hosts interviews women about "they're story" they strengths, trials, overcoming difficult things.  Briana herslef is an amazing women with her own story.  She is LDS, a mother to 5 children and... listen to find out.

Extraordinary Moms podcast- Not related to the above, ironically, but host Jessica, interviews extraordinary moms in all different places and phases of life.  Those who have experienced infertility, depression, international moves, self image, parenting with a disability.... You don't have to listen to podcasts in order so it's fun to chose which topics speak to you.

Happier with Gretchen Rubin- Gretchen is the author of one of my favorite books "The happiness project", and I really look forward to each of her podcasts.  She is an incredibly bright well read woman who has researched happiness at length.  Her podcasts given advice, "happiness hacks", 7 essential habits for happiness, discusses love languages... Admittedly her sister who is the co-host has somewhat annoying voice, but if you can get past that, it's a lot of fun. By the way if you want to read her books "Better than before" is pretty good, and "Happier at home" in my humble opinion was a waste of time.

Happy traveling, eating, baking and thanking!
